Once again the Sushi King Card RM2 Bonanza or Member's day is back in town, for 4 days (13th to 16th April). Despite the disappointment the last member's day where I dined at Sushi King KLCC, I went for another try at Sushi King East Coast Mall this time, with few leng zais and leng luis of course.
We arrived around 3pm, and like what I thought, not many people, it was Monday and lunch hour was over, we don't even need to queue. Our table's location was quite strategic I have to say, like the 3rd table from the sushi bar, means the chances of getting fresh sushi's are better.
When everything is settled, we just couldn't find any nice sushi's there. No Salmon, no Unagi (yet, they appeared after 30-40mins after we sat down), WTF. Sadly, the choices are really limited during member's day. I'll give a review on what I ate:
1. Deep Fried Scallop
It's deep fried, so don't expect fresh scallops, I'd say it's really normal, not that it tasted sucks but you should know what to expect when they fried their scallops (They ain't as fresh as they were before).
2. Ika (Raw Squid)
Ate this because they were nothing to eat, while waiting for the "main courses". Nice to bite, doesn't taste too fresh to me, though. Okay for a RM2 sushi, I guess.
3. Nama Hotate (Raw Scallop)
Served with wasabi inside, I don't like wasabi. Sorry. Thumbs down.
4. Fried Ebi / Tenpura
Finally, we managed to snatch few plates of tenpura's when it's out. Poor aunties who sat at the table beside ours were so frustrated because we took all of it, and they got none, haha. Nice prawn there, but be careful because sushi king really sucks at Nigiri sushi. Don't be surprised if you touch it with your chopsticks and the sushi actually got "demolished", LOL. Despite that it tasted good.
5. Unagi
Waited for a while until we finally saw Unagi, took like 7-8 plates of it. There were 2 types of Unagi sushi, the normal one that was served with unagi sauce and the roasted one. The roasted one is dry and harder (sorry it doesn't deserve the word "crunchy"). If you ask me I'll prefer the normal one though. Definitely a must eat at sushi king member's day, not that it's really delicious, but it's worth it.
6. Raw Salmon
Definitely my favourite. Waited really long for this to finally came out from the sushi bar. We were so excited (Okay maybe just me) when we saw those heading to us! The thickness and freshness somehow disappoints me, but still I ate 2 plates of these. Not superb salmon, but hey, RM2 ! Must try.
7. Smoked Salmon
We took like 5 plates of these, waited for KC (one of the leng zai) to be our white mice. He said Okay but we still insist of putting back 2 plates, and I shared one plate with another leng lui. It tasted really salty, maybe if you prefer salty/smoked food, you might like this, otherwise I don't think it's worth a space in your stomach.
8. Golden Ball
Fried Egg with mayonnaise. I think this is great, but abit costy because it's not sushi, so no promotion on member's day. RM4 each plate (One egg).
Overall I think the food quality and choices are not up to par with other Japanese restaurant. Ingredients are not fresh enough, slow service, limited quantity for certain sushi's (They made salmon sushi like once in an hour). Things like Tamago, Egg Mayo, Inari (and alot more) are not available during member day, but it differs for every branch.
There were 6 of us, and we ate 37 plates. (Note: Got one leng lui only ate one plate), and me myself ate 10, which basically screws up my diet plan. LOL.
Looking forward to go to Yaki Yaki / Jogoya buffet by end of the month. <3
Ciao.
